Have you heard the news? The Ritz-Carlton in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta will soon be changing names. The luxury hotel—what The Atlanta Journal-Constitution calls “the site of countless prominent charity balls, high-profile weddings, exclusive ladies’ luncheons and elegant afternoon teas”—will be joining Marriott’s Luxury Collection in December. Atlanta’s eighth largest hotel, The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead first launched in the 1980s. As the Atlanta Business Chronicle points out, it was “one of the first hotels under the newly-formed The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company LLC and leadership that included legendary Atlanta hotelier Horst Schulze."
As of December 1, the luxury hotel will be rebranded as The Whitley, A Luxury Collection Hotel. It will be managed by HEI Hotels & Resorts. This will be the first Luxury Collection property in Atlanta.
According to What Now Atlanta, “Plans last December were filed with Fulton Country for a multi-million dollar transformation of the hotel’s Café and Lobby Lounge.” But there’s no word about any other planned renovations.
The official announcement explains, “The team at the hotel is fully committed to a smooth transition over the next several months as the property continues to be managed under The Ritz-Carlton brand… Guests can rest assured that the hotel’s Ladies and Gentlemen will continue to provide the very best in guest and customer service."
Ritz-Carlton will continue to have two other properties in the state of Georgia: one in downtown Atlanta, and the other on Lake Oconee. The Luxury Collection currently comprises 100 hotels around the world.
