Rosewood Amsterdam—located within the historic former Palace of Justice—has opened its doors one month earlier than initially planned. Rosewood Hotel Group's CEO, Sonia Cheng, made the announcement on her LinkedIn, saying, "Today, I am thrilled to introduce Rosewood Amsterdam, our first property in the Netherlands."
With the property, Rosewood marks its debut in the Netherlands, while also becoming the last new hotel development permitted within a monumental building in Amsterdam. The site—the former Palace of Justice—was built in 1665 and is situated on the city's UNESCO World Heritage-listed canals. Rosewood began the project of converting the space into a luxury hotel 10 years ago.
Rosewood Amsterdam houses 134 guestrooms and suites, along with five signature suites. For couples, the pick would be the Canal View Signature Suite, spanning 914 square feet, or the Rooftop Terrace Suite, which has its own private terrace overlooking the city's rooftops (592 square feet in all). There's also a selection of "Houses," designed to accommodate families, groups or other guests looking for more space and privacy. Each House comes with dedicated butler service; accommodations range from 1,173 square feet (one king bed; two guests) to 2,777 square feet (three bedrooms; six guests).
Guests can avail themselves of three distinctive restaurants and bars, as well as an in-house distillery. Rosewood Amsterdam says it embodies the Dutch concept of gezelligheid—a “welcoming and cozy atmosphere”— throughout its venues, while elevating the local dining and event scene. The hotel will house a collection of over 1,000 pieces of art, "spanning centuries and mediums" that "[weave] together the story of Amsterdam and beyond." The property also has an Asaya Spa, a fitness center and an indoor swimming pool.
Good to know: Guests can also enjoy the city’s canals on a private Salon Boat, styled and decorated by Studio Piet Boon, providing an elegant and scenic way to travel to and from the hotel.
