Rosewood Tokyo to Anchor New Roppongi Mixed-Use Development

Rosewood Hotel Group is heading to the Japanese capital with the announcement of Rosewood Tokyo, its first urban hotel in the country and its latest move in an aggressive global expansion push.

Set within the Roppongi 5-Chome development — a new mixed-use destination in one of Tokyo's most culturally charged neighborhoods — the property will sit directly above Roppongi Subway Station and share its footprint with residences, retail, and office space. The project is a joint venture with Mori Building Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Realty & Development Co., Ltd.

"We are excited to introduce Rosewood Tokyo, a strategic expansion that reinforces our commitment in Japan," Rosewood Hotel Group CEO Sonia Cheng said in a statement. "Guided by our A Sense of Place philosophy, Rosewood Tokyo will celebrate the city's cultural depth while delivering distinctive, locally rooted experiences in one of the world's most influential global capitals."

The hotel will offer approximately 200 guestrooms and suites, including three-bedroom accommodations, alongside a suite of destination dining and bar concepts drawing from Tokyo's culinary culture. The property will also feature Rosewood's signature Manor Club, the brand's Asaya wellbeing concept with an indoor pool and yoga and fitness facilities, and a grand ballroom positioned for international gatherings.

Shingo Tsuji, president and CEO of Mori Building, called the partnership a realization of Rosewood's longstanding ambitions in the city. Kojun Nishima, president of Sumitomo Realty & Development, added that Rosewood's "distinctive vision and legendary hospitality" would help transform the project into a global destination.

Rosewood Tokyo follows the brand's 2025 debut of Rosewood Miyakojima, positioning the two properties as complementary poles of the Japanese experience — one serene and nature-driven, the other firmly urban. The announcement also slots neatly into a broader pipeline that includes Rosewood Seoul, Rosewood Shenzhen, Rosewood Ranfaru in the Maldives, Rosewood Calistoga in California's Napa Valley, and Rosewood Rome.

An opening timeline has not yet been announced.
