Rosewood is in the spotlight with an aggressive expansion strategy—Hotel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel made a splash in Paris this year, while it was recently announced that the new luxury hotel being created inside the former U.S. embassy in London will be managed by Rosewood. Properties in Luang Prabang, California, Guangzhou, the Bahamas and Phnom Penh are also in the pipeline.
But Rosewood isn’t just making the headlines because of its expanding footprint: the luxury hotel brand is also developing a new Asaya spa brand under the direction of Niamh O’Connell, the group vice president for wellness development. Hailing from Ireland, O’Connell has more than a quarter century experience in the spa industry working for both major hotel groups and independent spa brands. She joined the Rosewood team in 2015.
The Asaya spa concept is centered around a holistic wellness philosophy. It will make its debut on November 20 at the Rosewood Phuket, the brand’s first property in Southeast Asia. A second Asaya spa will follow in Hong Kong in 2018 with the opening of Rosewood Hong Kong.
With twin pillars of “self-acceptance and self-discovery,” the Asaya spa will offer a blend of spa therapies, nutrition coaching, fitness activities, lifestyle tips, educational wellness programming and healing practices. The spa treatments will also incorporate products by Maison Caulières and EviDenS de Beauté. The fitness facilities are the result of a partnership with Technogym.
In an interview with Spa Business, O’Connell said, “Consciously and unconsciously, wellness is becoming more significant in our day-to-day lives—in the ways we work, eat, sleep and socialize. Asaya is designed to assist guests in recognizing areas of their lives they’d like to change and then providing the tools and support they need to make these changes. Ultimately, this process enables people to adopt an enhanced lifestyle and have a more complete sense of self-acceptance.”
