Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa has partnered with Champagne Philipponnat in honor of the latter’s 500 years of history. Located in the heart of the Champagne wine region in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, just a short drive from Royal Champagne, the House of Philipponnat’s history dates back to 1522, when Swiss Captain Apvril le Philipponnat purchased his first plot of vineyards in Aÿ. Today, the house is run by Apvril’s descendant Charles Philipponnat, and perpetuates a family tradition and legacy cultivated over 16 generations.
Guests can avail of an exclusive package including a private tour of the Champagne house and its vineyards that are not open to the general public. “We’re delighted to partner with such an esteemed Champagne house and incredible local family in celebration of their 500th birthday,” said Vincent Parinaud, general manager of Royal Champagne. “The Philipponnats were among the original wine makers in Champagne and are the only family with such a long history of winegrowing, with deep roots and practices still used to this day. We’ve paired our Michelin-starred gastronomy and Philipponnat’s expertise to create a special experience with great synergy that we’re proud to share with our guests.”
Royal Champagne’s “At the Heart of Champagne” package includes two nights in a Junior Suite overlooking UNESCO-protected vineyards, with a limited-edition bottle of Philipponnat Champagne upon arrival, and a book outlining the family’s history spanning five centuries. Guests will enjoy breakfast in-room or at the property’s Le Bellevue restaurant. This will be followed by a short ride to Mareuil-sur-Aÿ for a private tour of the house and Champagne tasting. The tour begins at the Philipponnat vineyards down the street from their gates. Guests will explore the Clos des Goisses vineyard and learn about its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes before tasting a Clos des Goisses vintage.
The tour continues inside the house, where guests will learn how Champagne is made and visit the cellars dating to the 18th century. Finally, guests will sample a range of cuvées paired with light delicacies prepared by Royal Champagne’s chef. That evening back at the hotel, dinner will be served at the Michelin-starred Le Royal restaurant, consisting of Chef Jean-Denis Rieubland’s Signature Menu and Philipponnat’s special 1522 L.V. “Long Vieillissement” cuvée.
The package is priced at two nights for two and will be available through December 31, 2022.
