The Portuguese island of Madeira has long lured vacationers for its gentle climate and exotic flowers that bloom even in February (not to mention volcanic rock cliffs and mountains ideal for hiking enthusiasts). Now, there’s a new hotel that’s set to boost the luxury quotient on the island, when the destination’s first member of The Leading Hotels of the World opens in April 2019.
Situated in the island’s capital of Funchal, within walking distance to the Old Town, Savoy Palace has been built on the site of the former Savoy Hotel. Occupying a curved building, the 352 guestrooms were designed by RH+ architecture along with interior designer Nini Andrade Silva. Each of the rooms has a balcony overlooking the Atlantic ocean; these impressive views can also be appreciated from multiple swimming pools, terraced gardens and the rooftop sundeck. Top digs: The Pool Ocean Suite has its own private plunge pool, while the Presidential Suite comes with an indoor/outdoor pool, an open-plan kitchen, a lounge and dining room.
Savoy Palace aims to become Madeira’s “luxury lifestyle hub” with an array of facilities, including game rooms, fitness programs, children’s activities and a destination spa with hydrotherapy. There will be a number of F&B outlets, many of which have outdoor wrap-around terraces and show kitchens. These include the Source brasserie, SkyFood panoramic restaurant, White Orchid buffet restaurant, poolside terrace and teahouse. Note that the Savoy Premium Experience will afford guests premium amenities such as exclusive access to the panoramic Premium Service Lounge.
