Two years after its opening in May 2019, Shou Sugi Ban House, a wellness retreat and destination spa in the Hamptons, NY, has expanded its footprint in Water Mill with the addition of an intimate bed and breakfast for overnight stays and two standalone luxury residences for short-term rentals.
Shou Sugi Ban Inn is a bed and breakfast, composed of five rooms (including three suites), adjacent to the main Shou Sugi Ban House property and accessible by a private stone pathway. Previously known as White Fences Inn, each of the inn’s rooms and suites offer a modern gas fireplace, Frette linens, a soaking tub or shower, organic Japanese amenities and access to the inn’s private swimming pool and patio.
Overnight stays at the inn include Shou Sugi Ban House’s daily signature breakfast from the plant-rich culinary program designed by Michelin-starred chef Mads Refslund. The inn’s guests also have priority access to Shou Sugi Ban House’s spa and wellness offerings while on property, and can experience the House’s daily morning movement class on the main property for an additional fee (based upon availability).
Plans are underway to integrate the minimalist design of the Japan-inspired Shou Sugi Ban House into the existing interior design and landscape of the inn.
The property between Shou Sugi Ban House and Shou Sugi Ban Inn was also recently acquired and is available for short-term rentals. The home sits on one and a half acres and has five bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, tennis court and pool with a pool house and outdoor shower. It also has hardwood floors throughout, a large, convertible family room on the first floor, gourmet kitchen with doors that open to a screened-in porch, a fireplace, laundry room and office space. A lawn behind the house can accommodate a large tent for special events.
A second residence is also available for short-term rentals and offers seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. Adjacent to the Parrish Art Museum, the home includes a centralized living room with a gas fireplace, full kitchen and dining room, laundry room, office space and large windows providing ample natural light. The lawn surrounding the home connects to a backyard with a garden patio and lounge chairs.
Services such as daily housekeeping, private chef and property manager are available at an additional cost for either residence.
