Grenada, in the southernmost part of the Caribbean, has plenty of natural beauty: sugary sand beaches, waterfalls and lush tropical forest with hiking trails. The “Spice Island”—so called because of its nutmeg production—is also renowned for its scuba diving sites, including the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean (‘Bianca C’) and the world’s first underwater sculpture park. Soon Grenada will also lay claim to a new luxury resort, Silversands, a Leading Hotels of the World member. Set to debut in March 2018, Silversands will have 43 suites and nine residential villas.
This is the first big hotel project on the famous Grand Anse Beach in more than a quarter-century. It’s the brainchild of owner Naguib Sawiris, who describes—in the official press release—his weariness of constant world travel prior to discovering the island of Grenada and its extraordinary people. Says Sawiris, “We are trying to do something very modern, aimed at clients who go to St. Barth's or Barbados and think there’s nothing like that in Grenada. We want to show these clients that coming to this nature-blessed island, that has somehow kept its originality, is worthwhile.”
A resort highlight will be the 300-plus-foot swimming pool, the longest in the Caribbean. A DJ will spin the soundtrack at the beach club, while the Silversands Spa will offer myriad treatments reflecting the island setting. There will also be two restaurants.
Silversands ranks among the new buzzed-about hotel projects in Grenada. Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel recently became part of the Relais & Châteaux network, and the Kimpton Kawana Bay will open in 2019.
