An iconic luxury hotel leader is moving on.
Longtime Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs announced he was stepping down this week and noted in a LinkedIn post it was "a moment filled with many emotions — pride in what we’ve built, gratitude for those I’ve worked alongside, and excitement for what’s ahead."
Jacobs, who joined Six Senses more than 13 years ago, guided the brand through a period of sustained growth and reinvention. When he arrived, the brand comprised just eight hotels. By the time of his departure, it boasts 26 open properties — with over 30 more in development — spanning iconic destinations from Bhutan to the Caribbean.
Notably, during his tenure, Six Senses was acquired by IHG Hotels & Resorts in early 2019 for $300 million. The move was regarded within the industry as a strategic fit: IHG gained a high‑end, sustainability‑focused brand with strong wellness credentials, while Six Senses benefited from deeper distribution networks and operational muscle across IHG’s global platform.
Under Jacobs, sustainability and wellness weren’t mere buzzwords. They formed the DNA of Six Senses. He steered the brand into urban markets with wellness‑led club and residential concepts while continuing to embed regenerative principles—such as local food sourcing, plastic‑free operations, and bio‑diverse design—across its resorts.
In his message, Jacobs was quick to praise his team but also hinted at his future move: “Some might assume stepping down means slowing down … That road is not for me. I’ll soon be announcing a new venture, one that feels like a return to my own wild origins,” per his LinkedIn note.
