The countdown is on. It’s been years in the making, and now the highly anticipated Six Senses Krabey Island is set to debut in December. The private island resort recently announced that it’s accepting reservations starting December 1, 2018. Why is the opening getting so much buzz? For one thing, it will be the first Cambodian property for the Six Senses brand, which has been rapidly expanding with a host of new openings (including a clifftop spot in Bali, a circuit of lodges in Bhutan, and a seaside resort on the Turkish Riviera).
Here are the highlights of Six Senses Krabey Island: Situated on a 30-acre tropical island off Ream National Park in southern Cambodia, the resort is committed to environmental initiatives. The 40 private pool villas were designed using sustainable materials and have green roofs. (Each pool villa comes with both an infinity plunge pool and rain shower.)
The eco-friendly mission continues in the restaurant kitchen where local, seasonal produce is sourced for the Khmer and Southeast Asian cuisine. In the spa’s Alchemy bar, guests create their own natural skin care products using local ingredients. What’s more: The resort has its own water bottling plant using glass bottles, and an organic market farm covering 3,700 square feet. Guests are welcome to visit the farm and then participate in a cooking class.
Facilities are extensive: Sunset bar, ice cream parlor, night sky observatory, lap pool, water sports, open-air Cinema Paradiso and The Nest kids’ club. There’s a significant focus on wellness at the Six Senses Krabey Island. There’s a gym and rooftop yoga pavilion at the Six Senses spa, which is also outfitted with a Crystal Water Room and Meditation Cave. Continue your workout on the “jungle fitness circuit.”
Access: From Sihanouk International Airport, it’s a 10-minute drive to the resort’s mainland reception. Then guests board a boat for a 15-minute ride to the island.
Booking Tip: To celebrate the opening, the resort is offering the Six Senses Krabey Island Private Experience Package, which includes 20 percent savings on the best available rate (from December 1 to 21, 2018 and January 11 to 31, 2019.) The four-night package has a number of special add-ons, including a private sunset cruise, cooking class and visit to a local pagoda.
