Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has announced the latest project in the group’s expanding portfolio. Six Senses Shaharut, located to the south of Israel's Nagev Desert in the Arava Valley, will be opening in late 2018. The LEED-certified hotel will have just 58 suites and villas, occupying a footprint of approximately 46 acres.
Taking the landscape into consideration, the designers of Six Senses Shaharut's villas used local rocks and pigments, while landscapes have regional cacti and desert blooms and exterior lights are intended to avoid light pollution. Many furnishing elements of the resort are sourced from a partnership with local community artisans.
Accommodations comprise suites, one- and two-bedroom villas and a Presidential Villa, all with personal pools and range from 495 square feet for suites to 1,600 square feet for a two-bedroom villa. The three-bedroom Presidential Villa has an indoor space of 3,230 square feet and 775 square feet outdoors. It has a private spa treatment room and kitchen, plus a private poolside barbecue and parking garage.
The Six Senses Spa will have single and double treatment rooms, male and female steam rooms, saunas and hammams. In addition to the menu of Six Senses Specialty treatments, several traditional therapies will be offered together with Six Senses Integrated Wellness, (a combination of "the preventative principals of Eastern medicine and result-oriented Western influences"). In-house wellness experts will measure and analyze key physiological biomarkers in order to provide guests with lifestyle and nutritional advice. From this, they will design a personalized program of spa treatments, fitness and wellness activities. The Six Senses Spa facility also has a 53-foot indoor pool, an 82-foot outdoor lap pool, a fully equipped gym, nail bar and a yoga studio.
An all-day restaurant will serve a buffet breakfast and a la carte selections as well as a la carte casual lunches and seasonal dinners. A poolside bar and grill opens for lunch and dinner and a juice bar is located at the spa. Fresh ingredients will be harvested from the resort’s gardens and local farmers.
Within the resort is a Kid’s Den for children who do not wish to join their parent’s adventures off-property. Good to know: The Arava Valley and the surrounding region has several historic, archaeological and nature landmarks; there is also the opportunity to participate in extreme sports such as off-road driving, mountain climbing, mountain biking and rappelling. More leisurely family inclusive activities are hiking, camel or jeep safaris, craft workshops, bird watching and wine tours.
Flights from Tel Aviv to Eilat are 50 minutes, which is followed by a one-hour transfer to the resort. Driving from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem takes around three-and-a-half hours or three hours from Petra in neighboring Jordan. A new international airport at Ramon is under development just 45 minutes from the resort and will serve domestic flights and major carriers from key European markets.
