Since it was acquired by the InterContinental Hotels Group for $300 million in early 2019, Six Senses has announced a number of new openings in destinations around the world. Examples include Six Senses Papagayo (scheduled to open in Costa Rica in mid-2021) and Six Senses Össurá Valley (Iceland in 2022). This year alone has seen the unveiling of talked-about properties in Bhutan and Cambodia, and the expansion of the popular Douro Valley resort in Portugal. And they’re not slowing down.
In big news from the sustainability-focused luxury hospitality brand, Six Senses just announced a new resort development in the Loire Valley. An hour south of Paris by high-speed train, this UNESCO-listed region of France is not new to the spotlight. A year-long celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance is currently taking place at the majestic chateaux and other popular attractions (like the former home of Leonardo da Vinci).
Slated to open in May 2022, the Six Senses Loire Valley will be located in the village of Saint-Laurent-Nouan, less than 10 miles from the famous Chateau de Chambord. The resort will be part of the 1,400-acre Les Bordes Estate, which is home to Les Bordes Golf Club, and the development will also include a tennis center, equestrian facilities, natural swimming lake, petting farm and art gallery. The centerpiece will be a historic chateau, which will house reception and a gourmet restaurant and bar.
The 88 guest suites and villas will be spread out in enclaves next to streams throughout the surrounding woodland area. There will also be a Six Senses Spa and conference center. Developed in partnership with an affiliate of London-based RoundShield Partners LLP, Six Senses Loire Valley will also offer 70 residential villas.
