Five boutique hotels, including three recently opened locations, joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World’s collection. The new additions include Villa Maria Cristiana in Mexico, The Dudley Boutique Hotel in Australia, Bank Hotel in Sweden, Art Paradiso Hotel in South Korea and Enso Ango Fuya II in Japan.
Surrounded by the mountains and valleys of the Sierra de Guanajuato, the Villa Maria Cristina occupies a neo-classical townhouse in the UNESCO-recognized city of Guanajuato, Mexico. The hotel’s 300-square-meter spa includes a Roman-style pool, steam rooms, sauna baths and even a heated plunge pool for children. Guests who decide to explore outside of the hotel can walk amongst the city’s 16th-century buildings, visit Diego Rivera’s home or walk through the lively food markets.
Located in Daylesford, Australia, The Dudley Boutique Hotel is a restored country-style property. The close-by range of bush walks and trails make the location a luxury base for travelers looking to hike or mountain bike. Visitors looking for a more relaxing stay can head to the nearby town of Daylesford and visit its natural spring mineral spas, restaurants, galleries and gardens.

Opened in August, the Bank Hotel provides visitors to Stockholm the chance to sleep in a former bank. Architect Thor Thorén designed the property to be a modern interpretation of a renaissance palace, blending art-deco with the traditional solidity of a bank’s headquarters. The Bank Hotel offers several dining and beverage options, including the Papillon Bar where guests can order money-themed cocktails.
Just opened this September, Art Paradiso Hotel sits within the Paradise City resort in Incheon, South Korea. Filled with artwork, the property includes a piece in the lobby by artist Paik Nam June that was inspired by the 1963 classic “The Birds,” 12 photos from Australian artist Alexia Sinclair’s “Lady Justice” series and works in the elevators by Korean graffiti artist Xeva. Guests who choose to leave the property can walk through the Chinatown district and traditional markets while looking up at the city’s futuristic skyscrapers.
Small Luxury Hotel’s youngest addition, Enso Ango Fuya II in Kyoto, Japan, opened mid-October. Spread across five Zen-inspired buildings, the property allows guests to walk the city’s historical paths and immerse themselves in the local culture. Visitors here can join Zen meditation sessions with Buddhist priests, take traditional cooking and crafts lessons, practice yoga or participate in a traditional tea ceremony.
