Sofitel New York has launched its latest exhibition, “When Art Becomes Fashion: From Canvas to the Runway,” showcasing the innovative aluminum dresses and paintings of French artist and sculptor Stephane Koerwyn.
Running until October 21, travelers can now book Sofitel New York’s exclusive two-night “Art Becomes Fashion Package,” giving guests an opportunity to stay in one of Sofitel’s terrace suites and experience French art and culture. The package will include breakfast, a dinner with Koerwyn, and a painting session on the terrace of the suite overlooking the New York City skyline. Additionally, guests can experience a private, half-day painting workshop for two with Koerwyn, where he will guide each guest through his process of painting on aluminum and will transform the two completed works into one mini dress that will be theirs to keep.
While the Sofitel exhibit is Koerwyn’s first in New York, it marks the French artist’s return to the city that launched his artistic journey. After more than 20 years in senior marketing positions with multinational corporations, Koerwyn sought to reconnect with art through a series of painting classes in the Big Apple. Koerwyn returned to Paris with new resolve to make art his profession.
Having found his artistic voice, Koerwyn now aims to push the barriers of the conventional art world, painting on aluminum sheeting instead of traditional canvas. Koerwyn then transforms the finished paintings into modern art dresses that represent the union of art and fashion.
