Planning a trip to South Africa? Here’s some luxe lodging news that’s crossed our radar. andBeyond Phinda Vlei Lodge—situated on a protected private wildlife reserve in KwaZulu-Natal province— will be opening in June after a full renovation. The intimate lodge only has six suites, equipped with plunge pools and game viewing decks overlooking the meadows, wetlands, and watering hole. To quote the official website: “Simply spending time in your spacious suite is like being on safari. With each suite carefully positioned for a prime view of the animals coming out to drink and panoramic vistas from even your shower or bathtub, the game viewing never stops!”
Here’s the scoop on the makeover: Taking inspiration from the colonial style of KwaZulu-Natal’s sugar cane and pineapple plantations at the turn of the century, the new interiors are all about “old world luxury” with a hand-picked selection of antiques. Note that in the guestrooms, the bathrooms are also being completely revamped. The look continues in the public areas; think tapestries, art, vintage linens, silver and crystal. A library will be added and a dining deck enlarged for al fresco dining with views of the surrounding landscape.
Access: Airlink operates daily flights from Johannesburg or Cape Town to Phinda Private Game Reserve’s private airstrip.
