Sri Lanka’s Aarunya Nature Resort Unveils New Two-Bedroom Villa

Set within a private 10-acre estate overlooking the UNESCO-listed Knuckles Mountain Range, Aarunya Nature Resort in Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands has unveiled a new villa for the season. Set apart from the resort’s nine other villas, the new villa, Sol Sanctuary, spans more than 1,775 square feet and offers two bedrooms.

Sol Sanctuary’s two-bedroom layout includes a king suite and a convertible twin or king second room, making it well-suited for couples and families looking for wellness-driven stays. The villa's amenities include a nearly 23-foot private plunge pool with a jacuzzi, custom-designed furniture, living and dining spaces, a complimentary minibar, open-air rain showers, hand-hewn basins, expansive verandas and more. Guests also receive personalized butler service and uninterrupted views across spice groves and mountains.

The resort’s remaining villas, including the Sky Pavilion, Sky Tented Villas and Sky Habitat Villas, have been built by local craftsmen using traditional techniques. Each villa has a private plunge pool and decks with valley and mountain views.

Aarunya Nature Resort itself offers a range of dining experiences highlighting seasonal menus. Aahaara Specialty Sri Lankan Restaurant serves hyperlocal dishes with a contemporary twist, using organic estate-grown produce in a traditional mudhouse within a forest setting. Located in the Central Bungalow, The Verandah serves a fusion of international flavors and Sri Lankan influences, along with mountain and infinity pool views. The Aahaasa Tea Pavilion in the on-site tea estate offers afternoon tea, paring sweet and savory treats with hand-picked Ceylon teas. Tip: Floating breakfasts and candlelit in-villa dining experiences can also be arranged.

At the heart of the resort lies the Aarogya Wellness Centre and Spa, where guests can embark on personalized wellness journeys (minimum four nights) incorporating daily treatments, consultations with ayurvedic doctors, tailored meals and practices including yoga, Pilates and aqua movement. A newly opened stone bathhouse, complete with soaking tubs under a nutmeg tree, draws on village bathing rituals, inviting deep restoration through scrubs and oils made from estate-grown avocados, coconuts and herbs.

The resort additionally can arrange hands-on chocolate-making sessions, nature walks, bird-watching on its trails, sunrise yoga and naturalist-led journeys through highland tea and spice landscapes. Guests can also learn about conservation and sustainability initiatives funded by the Aarunya Nature Foundation. Beyond the estate, guests can explore the island’s Cultural Triangle, from the temples of Kandy to the ancient rock citadel of Sigiriya. Off-the-beaten-track local excursions also include visiting the Bambarakiri Ella Waterfall and the historic Aluvihare Rock Temple.

Good toi know: Aarunya Nature Resort is committed to sustainability. The estate is solar-powered, plastic-free and water-self-sufficient. The Aarunya Nature Foundation oversees conversation efforts such as biodiversity enhancement, biodynamic farming, community development and environmental education for local schoolchildren. In fall 2025, the resort will unveil a new Nature Pavilion, which will serve as a hub for ecological research supporting PhD students, specialist consultants and naturalists in collaboration with the University of Peradeniya.
