St. Regis Budapest Opens Inside Historic Klotild Palace

St. Regis Hotels & Resorts has opened its first property in Hungary, debuting inside Budapest's Klotild Palace — a Neo-Baroque landmark commissioned at the turn of the 20th century by Princess Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and recognized as a UNESCO-listed architectural site.

The St. Regis Budapest brings 63 rooms and 39 suites to one of Central Europe's most storied addresses, positioned steps from the Danube and among the Hungarian capital's most admired attractions. Accommodations include the Klotild Tower Suite and a two-bedroom Presidential Suite spanning 169 square meters with a private balcony offering direct views of the Elizabeth Bridge, the Danube and the Citadella.

"The St. Regis Budapest stands as a remarkable expression of architectural heritage, one that feels inherently aligned with the legacy of St. Regis," said George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader of St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. "The Astors, our brand's founding family, were drawn to places where culture, society, and celebration converged, and Budapest embodies that spirit. Bringing the House of Astor to Klotild Palace is a natural extension of that legacy, introducing our signature rituals, legendary St. Regis Butler Service, and enduring glamour to one of Europe's most storied capitals, where every moment is designed to be celebrated."

The interiors draw from the movement and light of the Danube, rendered through soft blue tones, fluid graphic patterns, and shimmering finishes. Design nods to the Hungarian Baths tradition surface through ceramics and decorative tile work, while Secessionist and Art Nouveau influences appear in bronze detailing, black-and-white floor patterns, and ornamental motifs. Guest rooms are designed as private theater boxes, a reference to Budapest's deep connection to opera — the Hungarian State Opera House opened its doors in 1884 — and fitted with brass-accented details and shaded fabrics echoing the city's decorative heritage. Each room also includes a refreshment center recalling a traditional Hungarian tile stove.

Guests arriving at the hotel are greeted by a grand staircase designed as a vertical river of light, anchored by sculptural ceramics and a glass ceiling framed by cascading bronze floral patterns and crown-shaped chandeliers. A gallery corridor called the Passage — formerly the building's porte cochere — connects the lobby to meeting and event spaces through suspended mirrors, arched ceilings, and layered lighting intended as a nod to Budapest's literary café culture.

The St. Regis Bar takes its cues from the stage, featuring sculptural alcoves and a bar counter set against a glass mural reimagining the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House. The bar's cocktail program, led by Head Mixologist Norbert Tengely, includes The Crown Mary — the hotel's riff on the Bloody Mary, itself born at The St. Regis New York in 1934 as the Red Snapper. Tengely's approach is anchored by a philosophy of "perfection through simplicity and minimalism."

The dining program includes 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant, which marries traditional Japanese culinary technique with modern presentation and offers a private dining room for an elevated omakase experience under Chef Thinus van der Westhuizen, Group Culinary Director of Ninety-Nine. Klotild Patisserie, set inside a historic apothecary space, serves Hungarian and French-Viennoiserie pastries alongside a bespoke limited-edition coffee blend. Signature St. Regis rituals — Afternoon Tea and Champagne Sabrage — are offered in the Atrium.

The St. Regis Spa houses an indoor pool, traditional hammam, Finnish sauna, experience showers, and three treatment rooms. The spa has partnered with Sothys and Budapest-rooted skincare brand Omorovicza, whose products draw from the city's historic bathing culture. A sixth-floor fitness studio topped with a glass roof rounds out the wellness offering.

Event space includes the John Jacob Astor Boardroom, three salons, and the Caroline Salon. The iconic St. Regis Butler Service is available throughout the property.

The Budapest opening marks the St. Regis brand's latest European expansion, adding a Central European flagship to a portfolio that positions the 125-year-old brand at the intersection of historic grandeur and contemporary luxury hospitality.
