As the official New York City hotel partner for “Chevalier,” The St. Regis New York is bringing the film from Searchlight Pictures to life through a series of immersive experiences in conjunction with the film’s theatrical release this spring. In collaboration with the team at Searchlight Pictures, the Chevalier Suite was created, a bookable, one-of-a-kind designer suite with ornate interiors reflecting 18th-century Paris.
“Chevalier” is inspired by the true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette and her court.
The Chevalier Suite has been designed in collaboration with the team from Searchlight Pictures. The space is brought to life with props inspired by the film as well as antique furniture, sculptural busts, candelabras and vintage rugs. A dramatic fireplace floral installation speaks to Marie Antoinette’s love of flowers and potted topiaries draw on the gardens of Versailles. Music is at the heart of the film, brought to life with vintage music books, violin on display and gilded music stand. Special touches can be found throughout the suite, from custom hand towels and specialty soaps in the marbled bathroom, to vignettes throughout the living room. Artwork from the film can be found framed throughout the space alongside props, including a vintage fencing mask, silk pillows and more.
Guests booking the Chevalier Suite will receive a custom Chevalier macaron welcome amenity, a gift bag, a private champagne sabering experience, as well as access to The St. Regis Signature Butler Service. The Chevalier Suite will be bookable from April 21 to May 31, 2023. It joins the hotel’s line-up of designer suites including the Dior Suite and the Bentley Suite.
Known for her love of pastries and sweets, Marie Antoinette serves as muse for a “Chevalier Afternoon Tea” experience in Astor Court at The St. Regis New York. With a custom menu crafted by the hotel’s pastry team to celebrate French patisserie, the tea includes a sweet and savory display of French macarons, rose eclairs, a selection of tartlets, mini quiche, roasted vegetable croissants and more. Astor Court will also present live music performed by a violinist. The limited-edition tea will be served Friday through Sunday, April 21 through May 7 from 3 to 5 p.m.
In addition, The Green Vase, the paper flower shop from artist and stylist Livia Cetti, will be popping up in The St. Regis New York’s Cognac Room until April 30. The Green Vase has created a custom Chevalier Rose inspired by the film, available as a single stem or in a variety of plant sizes including a new mini size. Shoppers can stop by from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April 20–23 and April 27–30 to shop the limited-edition bloom as well as a range of Green Vase’s paper creations.
