This November, The St. Regis Rome—originally opened in 1894 by César Ritz as the Grand Hotel—will emerge from a 40 million-euro renovation. The new look has been designed by interior design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon Inc. (PYR) of Paris and Chicago.
The full-scale restoration includes all public areas, including the lobby, lounge bar and library, as well as all of the hotel’s 138 guestrooms and 23 suites. In the new lobby, PYR used a “regal palette” of black and gold to embrace the intricate moldings, arched entryways and fluted columns. In the guestrooms, pastel hues were used. Travertine tiles, bronze accents, sculptural busts, mosaics and other various objets d’art can be found throughout the property.
In the updated Lounge & Bar, guests will find a chic space that connects to the intimate, sapphire-blue Library. Designed for cultured conversation over afternoon tea or a glass of fine wine, the Library “embodies the essence of the St. Regis brand’s modern glamour,” with Empire-style crystal chandeliers, Venetian mirror and black marble fireplace. The restored grand staircase leads guests from the lobby to the rooms.
The renovated guestrooms and suites will mix influences from the Empire, Regency and Louis XV eras. Each guestroom will have one of two color-schemes: Clean powder blue or warm terra cotta. En-suite bathrooms with large soaking tubs are lined in travertine or Marquina black marble; many also have terrazzo floors and mosaic insets. While the hotel embraces its history, guestooms will also have all of the latest tech.
Note: Even the Butlers at The St. Regis Rome will be debuting new uniforms as a result of a collaboration with haute couture fashion designer, Giada Curti. The Italian designer created a tailored collection of stylish, made-in-Italy uniforms for all hotel employees, in fact.
The Ritz Ballroom also received updates. It was designed by Roman architect Giulio Podesti and decorated with frescoes by Mario Spinetti, the Ritz Ballroom has undergone a six-month restoration.
