The Indian Hotels Company Limited introduced the Taj brand to Himachal Pradesh this week with the opening of Taj Theog Resort & Spa, Shimla. Located under the snowy peaks of the Himalayas in northern India, the new property marks the company’s first mountain resort.
The hotel offers 99 rooms, each with spacious balconies looking out over the mountains. Guests here have access to an expansive spa, a temperature-controlled pool with a deck and an assortment of specially designed local experiences. Situated amid a thick cedar forest, the five-acre property also provides a system of pathways for visitors looking to wander its apple orchards and terraced gardens.
Taj Theog Resort & Spa will feature a number of culinary options. The all-day diner Tragopan will serve Pahari cuisine, along with global dishes and comfort food; the oriental restaurant Peony will offer a Sichuan- and Cantonese-based menu; and Theog Junction, designed as a tribute to the classic narrow-gauge toy train that travels from Kalka to Shimla, will provide a more casual pub atmosphere.
The new property is just the latest from Taj, a brand that stretches back to 1903. The portfolio, with locations in India, North America, the United Kingdom, Africa, the Middle East, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal, offers a variety of options, from modern business hotels to luxury beach resorts.
