Paris, Tokyo, and Italy Rule the World’s 50 Best Hotels 51-100 List

The World’s 50 Best Hotels has released the back half of its 2026 ranking, naming the properties placed No. 51 through No. 100 two weeks ahead of the main list’s unveiling in Paris on Sept. 15.

La Réserve Paris re-enters the ranking to top the extended list at No. 51, followed by Janu Tokyo at No. 52 and Park Hyatt Tokyo at No. 53. Asia accounts for 20 of the 50 hotels, more than any other continent, with Europe close behind at 16. Italy places nine properties, the most of any European country, and Japan places seven. The list spans 23 territories and 40 cities, and 10 of the hotels are independent, led by Il San Pietro di Positano at No. 58.

The 51-100 list, introduced in 2025, is decided by the same voting pool as the top 50: more than 800 anonymous members of The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, a mix of hoteliers, travel journalists, hotel educators, and luxury travelers selected by Academy Chairs across 13 regions. Each voter casts seven ranked votes for hotels where they have stayed during the three-year voting period, and at least 25 percent of the panel turns over each year. Deloitte serves as the independent adjudicator of the results.

“The 51–100 list recognises 50 more exceptional hotels that represent the very best of global hospitality," Faye Huggett, director of community for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, said in prepared remarks. "This extended list broadens the spotlight to a remarkable community of properties and the passionate people who bring them to life - each one defining what great hospitality means today. Every hotel here has earned its place through our expert Academy’s votes and we hope their achievements will go on to inspire future travels."

The extended list arrives amid continued scrutiny of how hotel rankings get made. As Luxury Travel Advisor reported last year, publicists say hosting the right Academy voters can improve a property’s odds, an assertion 50 Best firmly denies, while luxury advisors say clients rarely book a hotel on the strength of a list alone. With no codified criteria, the results have also tended to favor newer properties. The Calile in Brisbane, one of only two Australian hotels to make the 2025 ranking, returns this year at No. 83, and the 2026 extended list again mixes recent openings such as Rosewood London and Janu Tokyo with long-established names like the Ritz Paris and Gleneagles.

North America

Nine North American hotels made the list, five of them in the U.S. Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles is the highest-ranked at No. 57, with The Beverly Hills Hotel following at No. 65. New York City claims three spots: The Fifth Avenue Hotel at No. 78, which also takes this year’s American Express Travel One To Watch Award, along with Aman New York at No. 87 and The Greenwich Hotel at No. 92.

Mexico contributes three properties, with Hotel Esencia in Tulum re-entering at No. 64, Montage Los Cabos at No. 67, and Four Seasons Tamarindo in La Manzanilla at No. 74. Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo in Panama City enters the ranking for the first time at No. 63.

In South America, Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco, Peru, ranks No. 54, and Hotel das Cataratas at Brazil’s Iguassu Falls is No. 77.

Asia

Tokyo alone lands five hotels. Beyond Janu Tokyo and Park Hyatt Tokyo, the city’s new entries include The Okura at No. 69 and Palace Hotel Tokyo at No. 73, while Hoshinoya Tokyo ranks No. 85. Elsewhere in Japan, Hotel The Mitsui in Kyoto is No. 79 and Waldorf Astoria Osaka debuts at No. 89.

Hong Kong places two hotels, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong at No. 59 and Four Seasons Hong Kong at No. 86, and mainland China adds Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen at No. 90 and The Peninsula Shanghai at No. 99. India’s two entries are The Johri, an independent hotel in Jaipur, at No. 94 and The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, a first-time entrant, at No. 98.

Soneva Fushi in the Maldives ranks No. 55, Mandapa in Bali is No. 61, Rosewood Bangkok is No. 70, and Amangalla in Galle, Sri Lanka, is No. 71. Capella Hanoi enters for the first time at No. 81, as does Wynn Palace in Macau at No. 96, while Capella Singapore re-enters at No. 97.

Europe

France has four properties on the list. Alongside La Réserve Paris, the Ritz Paris debuts at No. 72 and Carlton Cannes at No. 80, and The Maybourne Riviera re-enters at No. 93.

Italy’s nine hotels are led by Il San Pietro di Positano, the country’s highest new entry. Castiglion del Bosco in Montalcino at No. 62, Orient Express La Minerva in Rome at No. 66, Forestis Dolomites in Brixen at No. 68, and Villa Treville in Positano at No. 91 all appear for the first time. Splendido in Portofino ranks No. 60, Borgo Santandrea in Amalfi is No. 84, Borgo Egnazia in Savelletri is No. 88, and Reschio in Lisciano Niccone is No. 95.

The U.K. places two hotels, new entry Rosewood London at No. 56 and Gleneagles in Auchterarder at No. 100. In Türkiye, the independently owned Maçakızı in Bodrum ranks No. 76.

Africa and Oceania

La Mamounia in Marrakech is Africa’s lone entry at No. 75. Oceania is represented by Huka Lodge in Taupō, New Zealand, at No. 82 and The Calile at No. 83.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 ranking will be announced Sept. 15 at Les Salles du Carrousel in Paris, moving the reveal to a new city and up the calendar after last year’s late-October ceremony in London, where Rosewood Hong Kong took the No. 1 spot. The ceremony will stream live on the 50 Best YouTube channel beginning at 8 p.m. Paris time (2 p.m. ET).
