There’s a new way to stay in Tulum. Design Hotels has announced that the Tulum Treehouse will be opening in October.
The unique accommodations are located on a popular stretch on Tulum’s main beach road but are set back into the private jungle. Surrounded by vegetation, the private home is set in the quiet Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and is designed to be a luxury jungle escape.
The house can sleep up to 10 guests in five bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms when rented in its entirety. Or, guests can also rent it as a three-bedroom property. All rooms have a private terrace and outdoor shower, a hammock, or a seating area. The separate Garden Suite offers two bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as wooden decks and terraces spanning 125 square meters.
There are also large common areas, wrap-around terraces, and spaces for indoor-outdoor living.
Architecture studio Co-Lab Design Office and interior designer and stylist Annabell Kutucu are the minds behind the furnishings inside. Many of the elements inside come from local artisans. Inside, guests will find upcycled furniture from Jorge and Rita, a local family of carpenters, handwoven baskets by Rosalinda, individually crafted Oaxacan ceramics by La Chicharra, and textiles by Mexican label Caravana.
There are also skin care, body oils, hair care, and other products from Tulum-based company Lolita Lolita. The line specializes in all-natural organic products that use local health rituals and indigenous natural ingredients like aloe vera, chile, peppermint, rosemary, and honey.
The property relies on a full solar power setup with a back-up generator, as well as a two-pronged water treatment and irrigation system to ensure the delicate ecosystem of the Tulum jungle and mangrove area is preserved.
