W Hotels Worldwide has announced the debut of W Budapest, marking the brand’s first opening in Hungary. Located on Andrássy Avenue, the property is housed in the historic Drechsler Palace, previously home to the Institute of Ballet. W Budapest offers 151 guestrooms, including 45 suites. The hotel’s connection to ballet is reflected in the all-black Extreme WOW suite and all-white WOW suite—reminiscent of the famous ballet “Swan Lake.”
W Budapest offers three new dining concepts. Nightingale by Beefbar is a spinoff of the famous Beefbar concept, and pairs fresh traditional Asian flavors with a selection of Beefbar’s meat dishes. The bar offers a range of creative cocktails. Society25, the hotel’s speakeasy, is located in the basement. The extensive cocktail list offers eight bespoke cocktails paying homage to the great eras, people and buildings within the city. Guests can take their pick from The Illusionist named after Harry Houdini; Brew Bop which nods to Budapest’s Golden Age of coffee, and Geranium inspired by Drechsler Palace.
Located next door to the secret speakeasy is W Budapest’s Away Spa, offering five treatment rooms and a range of treatments along with its “Quick Fix” menu. Other facilities include the pool and fitness center. Located on the ground floor is W Lounge. From business meetings and light lunches to late-night revelry, W Lounge offers sharing plates and signature cocktails to a backdrop of DJ performances. The new hotel also houses several meeting and event spaces, including the Great Room, which is ideal for grand celebrations, and two Studio Rooms for business meetings and intimate gatherings.
Programming will include “Faces of Budapest,” a series of roundtable discussions kicking off in August in celebration of “Budapest Fashion Week”; and led by local Annamaria Kaptay, “W RE(TREAT)” will be a series of in-person and in-room virtual yoga classes. Additionally, guests can enjoy music with cocktails and light bites at “Sunset Sessions,” “The Warm-Up” and “Afterdark.”
