W Hotels Worldwide has announced the opening of W Aspen and The Sky Residences, located at the base of the eponymous mountain. Aiming to bring a luxurious, playful style to the historical town of Aspen, local architects Rowland and Broughton and global interior design firm Nemaworkshop teamed up with the W brand’s design team to create a vintage- and nature-inspired design to W Hotels' newest Mountain Escape.
Beginning with the exterior, W Aspen is a modern mountain chalet with long, sloping roof lines. The inspiration continues throughout the interior, giving guests scenes of terrariums representing seasonal Aspen activities, from hiking and biking to skiing and snowboarding, as well as wall décor filled with paintings of the Rocky Mountains.
W Aspen has 88 guestrooms and 11 W-branded Sky Residences, along with four Wow suites and one Extreme Wow suite, all of which offer a modern take on Ute patterns and furniture inspired by the decadence of ‘70s Aspen. All guestrooms interiors reference Swiss chalet architecture, using rustic wood finishes, sloped rooflines and a fireplace-inspired W MixBar. Each guestroom has pit and platform lounge seating and is complete with Ute-inspired accent pillows. Selected rooms offer quad-queen bunk beds, which can sleep up to eight.
On the second floor is The Living Room, which serves as the central point of the Escape experience and showcases a grid-pattern display on the bar, a nod to traditional millwork structures. Seating in The Living Room has brass and polished rods with plush, velvet cushions synonymous with Aspen’s bohemian counterculture of the early ’70s. Light fixtures resemble the look of a miner’s headlamp and floors are swept with curving patterns inspired by soil found at the bottom of a smuggler’s cove. Good to know: The Living Room will have an outdoor fire pit.
Additionally, guests can enjoy W Aspen’s Wet Deck, an 8,000-square-foot, all-weather public rooftop with panoramic mountain views, a heated pool, hot tub, fire pits, cabanas, bar, dance floor and DJ booth. Guests can enjoy signature beverages from the center bar, which plays host to a ceiling of abstract crystal sculptures that mimic upside-down mountain peaks. The former ski bar, 39 Degrees, has also returned as an underground ultra-lounge cocktail bar and grotto inspired by the Red-Light District of Aspen. Here, guests will find platform and pit seating, crushed velvet touches and a mural that portrays an Aspen landscape.
