The 46 High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains have inspired a series of renovations and refreshments at Whiteface Lodge, a Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four-Diamond resort in Lake Placid, New York. A reconceived program at The Spa now includes Olympic-inspired—and Olympian-led—services that reflect the destination, which has twice hosted the international winter sporting event.
Additionally, explorers can now add a stop at Peak 47, the resort’s redesigned dining lounge. Other amenity enhancements have debuted this summer as well.
Updated Spa Experience
New programs and services reveal a focus on high intensity, highly therapeutic wellness. Guests can undergo Metabolic Testing with an Olympic Athlete, capitalizing on the expertise of two-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time World Champion, Andrea Henkel Burke. Using the Aeroscan endurance test, Burke will identify guests’ optical fat-burning zones and maximal-training zones and aerobic capacity. The test results help athletes improve the efficiency of any training program and produce results with less effort.
After training, guests can recover with Whiteface Lodge’s new Alpine Athlete series, which addresses the rigors of alpine exercise with a strong focus on recovery and rejuvenation. For example, the Whiteface Arnica Recovery Wrap includes a gentle exfoliation with arnica infused sugar, which brushes away surface stress and prepare the body to receive deep healing.
Then, an arnica-infused shea butter masque is applied while guests are wrapped in a warm cocoon, allowing them to soak in rich minerals and healing arnica extract. Finally, a Deep Tissue Massage relaxes the body and mind while arnica oil seeps into muscles for deep healing and recovery.
Another healing service is the Great Salt Lake Bath. This hydrotherapy soak in a private therapeutic bath helps improve circulation and promote deep relaxation when paired with a massage. A warm bath of custom salts infuses the body with minerals to help reduce muscle soreness and aid in recovery.
More than 40 new services have been added to The Spa menu as part of its refresh. Other signature additions include Ausable River Stone Massage, which pairs the therapeutic benefits of both heated and cooled basalt stones with Swedish massage techniques to provide a deeply relaxing and soothing therapy. This service helps ease tension and stress while increasing circulation and is excellent for chronic pain relief.
The Biodynamic HydraFacial includes Hydra dermabrasion, painless extractions, biodynamic hydration, facial massage, lymphatic drainage and blue/red light therapy, dermabuilder fine line support and stem cell serum for a transformative facial experience.
Introducing Peak 47
A casual retreat from the Adirondacks, Peak 47—formerly called Kanu Lounge—has been renovated with special emphasis around the resort’s mixology program and cuisine. Seating at the remodeled bar area has more than doubled, now with 18 barn-wood stools set against a new copper-topped bar made of local birch with alder wood finishes. There, guests and locals can explore Lead Mixologist Zachary Blair’s creations, which complement the lounge’s cocktail menu. During an interactive series of questions between Blair and guests, dubbed “The Game,” personal insights lead to a bespoke, of-the-moment libation. The drink might include spirits barrel-aged on-site, reflecting Blair’s latest pet project.
Peak 47’s lunch and dinner menu has been refreshed in tandem with the lounge’s interiors. Specialties include Arugula and Watercress Salad with spring strawberry, shaved radish, parmesan crisp and vanilla grapefruit vinaigrette and Spring White Pizza including local ricotta, roasted garlic, local spring vegetables and a balsamic drizzle. The lounge also offers a variety of local and regional beers, as well as a selection of 400 regional, domestic and international wines that continuously earn the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
New Amenities for Outdoor Experiences
A variety of new offerings add to Whiteface Lodge’s list of outdoor amenities and activities. Guests can explore the eight miles around Lake Placid from the resort’s Paradox Bay launch in new, 13-foot light touring kayaks, available for half- and full-day rentals, which are in addition to the resort’s existing fleet of complimentary boats and boards. Or, guests can grab a paddle of a different kind thanks to Whiteface Lodge’s new pickleball court.
