Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon) is Myanmar’s largest city and former capital. The city bears a rich cultural history with its ancient temples and pagodas, but also has a lively and burgeoning culinary and music scene. On September 7, Hotel G Yangon will be the first lifestyle hotel to debut amid this duality.
The 85-room Hotel G Yangon will be located in the heart of Yangon’s entertainment neighborhood, walking distance from art galleries, shopping malls, Yangon’s central railway station and the famous Bogyoke Aung San (Scott’s) Market. The Yaw Min Gyi district, where the hotel is located, is just a short drive from the Shwedagon Pagoda and downtown Yangon’s historic colonial buildings. The streets of Yaw Min Gyi have numerous street food shops, small vendors of exotic fruits, flowers and traditional workshops. The Bogyoke Aun San (Scott’s) Market sells a variety of food, lacquerware, souvenirs, gems, jewelry, tailor shops, traditional Myanmar longyi and musical instruments.
The hotel is managed by GCP Hospitality; the brand has a network of properties in Singapore, Bangkok, Pattaya, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Shenzhen, with scheduled openings in Beijing, Perth and Seoul after their Yangon debut. Hotel G Yangon plans to satisfy modern travelers with its intuitive, integrated technology, fast connectivity and understated style, while providing creatively designed social spaces, a fully equipped fitness center and the trendy Babett Eatery & Bar.
The Babett Eatery & Bar, open throughout the day will offer breakfast on the go, brunch, pizzas from a wood-fired grill, platters of cold cuts and cheese, as well as daily specials from Executive chef Javier Ballesta. Babett plans to become a social hub, where guests mixologists or bartenders serve cocktails and wines by the glass from an extensive list. A regular roster of Myanmar and Asia’s up-and-coming DJs provide the soundtrack for an evening spent there.
The Real Fitness Express gym at Hotel G Yangon will have treadmills, free weights and mat areas. Off of the open-concept lobby will be a G shop, stocking Hotel G branded accessories as well as hand-made crafts and design pieces sourced from throughout Myanmar in collaboration with the local trade collective, Hla Day.
The 85 rooms at Hotel G Yangon range from 15 to 30 square meters across four room categories: Good, Great, Greater and Greatest. Wood tones in every room contrast with vividly colored walls and artworks with a modern graphic take on Myanmar’s design heritage. All rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi, a phone with free local and international calls, a Bluetooth stereo alarm, LED smart TV, an e-reader application, a safe and tea and coffee making facilities.
