Soon there will be a Los Cabos luxury hotel joining the elite ranks of The Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties. These are billed as “rare places set aside for those who appreciate an exotic sanctuary tucked away in the most exquisite corners of the world.” Currently these ultra-luxury getaways comprise Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico; Phulay Bay in Thailand; and Mandapa in Bali, Indonesia. Next in the pipeline is Zadún, located on the coastline of San José del Cabo overlooking the Sea of Cortez.
Scheduled to debut in early 2018, Zadún was built to blend into the surrounding landscape. The design pays homage to this setting: both the desert dunes and the sea. What’s the meaning behind “Zadún”? The official press release notes that it’s “inspired by the unique topography and dunes of the region – dunas in Spanish – and meant to evoke the transformative, pure experiences guests have at Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties.”
There will be 115 guest suites and villas, each serviced by a personal butler; many come with private plunge pools. Resort facilities include two championship golf courses, a desert botanical park, a spa and several swimming pools. Special attention will be paid to amenities and experiences rooted in the local culture and history.
Sandra Estornell, a hospitality veteran, was appointed general manager in June. She has worked for Ritz-Carlton for 15 years, overseeing a total of 17 luxury hotel openings including The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna. Most recently, she worked as general manager at the The Ritz- Carlton, Santiago.
Future Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties include Pearl Island, Panama and Tamuda Bay, Morocco.
