Design Hotels has announced its latest hotel, Zuri Zanzibar, will open in May 2018 on the northern coast of Unguja, the Tanzanian archipelago’s main island. The 55-room hotel will have ocean-front accommodations, private access to the beach, several dining options and outdoor excursions.
Accommodations
At Zuri Zanzibar, guests will stay in one of the 55 bungalows, suites or villas at the hotel. The 1,420-square-foot suites have semi-private access to the beach, a private Jacuzzi and partial views of the Indian Ocean. The 2,800-square-foot Ocean Front Villa (great for families!) comes with ocean-front views, semi-private beach access, an open-air private Jacuzzi, two separate bedrooms and a living room.
The largest room at Zuri Zanzibar is the three-bedroom Ocean Front Luxury Villa. The 5,380-square-foot villa accommodates up to six adults and provides guests with their own private beach, infinity pool, kitchen, dining area, entertainment room, private Jacuzzi and zen pond.
Restaurants
The hotel’s three restaurants and four bars will have menus inspired by international flavors and culinary traditions. The Upendo Restaurant, Zuri Zanzibar’s main restaurant overlooking the entire resort, will offer European, African, Arabian and Indian-inspired cuisine with a tropical twist.
At The Bahari and Peponi Bars, guests will be able to choose from a full drink menu of original cocktails, daiquiris and smoothies as they lounge in benches and sofas.
Wellness
For guests looking to unwind, Zuri Garden is an ideal spot for private yoga and meditation sessions; the gardens will be open to all guests 24/7. The sea-front Maua Wellness Spa will have three massage rooms and one salon offering a range of treatments, manicures, pedicures and facials, plus a hairdresser. The spa will also have a Jacuzzi deck with sun beds.
The “Wild Fitness” and indoor gym facilities will give guests the option to partake in outdoor movement exercises or get the traditional gym experience with cardio and weight equipment.
Active Travel
For more active travel, Zuri Zanzibar will offer “Signature Tours” and excursions where guests can experience the culture and wildlife of Zanzibar. Activities include:
- A dolphin tour where guests have the chance to swim with humpback and bottlenose dolphins in Menai Bay
- Snorkeling with the turtles near Tumbatu Island and Mnemba atoll marine park, two well-known diving and snorkeling spots. Guests can arrange snorkeling trips at the hotel’s diving center, complete with speedboat transport and scuba equipment
- A trip to The Jozani Forest, Zanzibar’s national park, where guests can see flora and fauna unique to the region, including the Red Colubus Monkey, a rare species only found in Zanzibar
Additionally, guests can go to the WIMBI Water Sports Center & Shop that offers equipment rentals, diving lessons and beach games like volleyball and petanque. Guests can also book a sunset cruise, a boat trip, fishing trips and snorkeling excursions through the center.
