Membership Collective Group has expanded into the Middle East with the debut of The Ned Doha in Qatar. This marks the brand’s third Ned hotel and members’ club, and its first location in the Middle East.
Created in 2017 by Soho House founder Nick Jones, The Ned originated in London in the former Midland Bank headquarters, designed by Sir Edwin “Ned” Lutyens in 1924, and opened its second location, The Ned NoMad, in the 1903 Johnston building in New York City in 2022. This third Ned location is set across five floors in the former site of the Ministry of Interior, overlooking the Arabian Gulf and Doha’s skyline. It has 90 bedrooms and suites, seven restaurants, a pool and club lounge, a health club with spa, salon and fitness center, and an 8,350-square-foot event space for conferences, events and receptions.
Originally designed in the 1960s by Lebanese architect William Sednaoui, the brutalist-style building has been redesigned by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin with interiors by Soho House Design. The property’s newest architectural attribute is a podium that surrounds the building and creates inviting public spaces abundant with shade and views of the Al Corniche Waterfront.
The ’70s-inspired bedrooms are available in three categories, ranging from Cosy to Medium to Large, each with balconies offering views of the city or Arabian Gulf. Guest bathrooms are marble-clad, with walk-in rainforest showers in Cosy and Medium bedrooms, plus freestanding claw-foot bathtubs in Large bedrooms.
The 12 suites are ideal for lengthier stays and larger parties. Palace View Suites are positioned in the corners of the original building and have two floor-to-ceiling glass walls, double aspect balconies overlooking Doha and the Arabian Gulf, and separate living areas. Corniche Suites have separate lounges with a sofa, coffee table and dining for four, and two balconies. Park View Suites offer double aspect balconies with sunset views over Al Bidda Park, dining areas for up to six guests and large sofas. All suites include walk-in wardrobes with dressing tables, bathrooms with free-standing bathtubs, walk-in showers and separate powder rooms.
The Ned Doha offers seven restaurants open to all. Situated in the center of the hotel, Cecconi’s serves Northern Italian classics. It has an open kitchen and a walk-around bar offering cocktails and an international wine selection. Kaia serves pan-Asian cuisine; Electric Diner is a casual restaurant, serving American staples and deli favorites; Nickel Lounge offers a menu of classic drinks, with seating centered around the live performance stage; Millie’s Grill is a European brasserie that also serves afternoon tea; Hadika serves Levantine cuisine in a garden setting, and also has three private dining rooms; and adjacent to the pool is Malibu Kitchen, serving California-inspired favorites.
The members’ club experience plays out in two settings at The Ned Doha. On the ground floor is Ned’s Club Pool, an area with private cabanas and daybeds. Ned’s Club Upstairs is a rooftop lounge that includes a private room with seating for up to 12 guests.
At Ned’s Club Spa, members and hotel guests can enjoy a range of treatments besides the sauna, steam room and hammam. The health club is also home to Ned’s Club Gym, with state-of-the-art equipment, a range of classes, and a separate gym space for women. Ned’s Club Spa also offers multiple treatment rooms for barber services, hairdressing, manicures and pedicures.
Ned’s Club members also get access to all members-only spaces in The Ned London and The Ned NoMad, besides invitations to exclusive parties and events worldwide.
