This November at its Annual Sales Meeting in Las Vegas, Signature Travel Network will select the next recipient of the yearly Michelle Morgan Leadership Award.

The Michelle Morgan Leadership Award was created to recognize travel industry professionals who embody the qualities that made Michelle Morgan successful in both her professional and personal life.

Morgan, Signature’s previous president, passed away in September 2013 of AML, an aggressive and complex form of leukemia.

The award selection committee, which Signature chooses from a small group of Morgan’s close friends and family, identifies several characteristics when determining the recipient, including being adaptive and nimble to an ever-changing business environment, showing commitment and passion to a cause and demonstrating the ability to empower others to achieve success.

Last year’s recipient, Carol Lekki, president of Carol’s Travel Service, was the first person to receive the award.

Lekki’s agency became a Signature member in 2003, and shortly thereafter she began serving on the Signature Marketing Committee. Lekki was later elected to the Signature Board of Directors in 2009 and is currently the acting treasurer.

“Receiving the Michelle Morgan Leadership Award was a huge honor. It’s an award I am extremely proud of and one I stay conscious of,” said Lekki at the time.

Alisa Presti, director of Internet Business Solutions for Signature and Michelle Morgan’s daughter, says the committee was overwhelmed and inspired by the quality of the nominees it received last year.

“I know Michelle would want to recognize and celebrate each person for the positive ways they influence the lives of everyone they meet, but we ultimately had to select one recipient,” said Presti.

In addition to the award, the Michelle Morgan Memorial Fund was created to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Beat AML campaign. To date, the fund has donated $60,000 to the organization, with the goal of finding more effective treatments for the disease by examining the genetic sequences of the patient’s particular form of the disorder.

Recently, an infusion of $20,000 into the fund made it possible for Beat AML to meet its annual fundraising goal. The fund is also currently working with a local blood bank in Southern California to support patients in need.
