Maido, Lima, is Crowned the Best Restaurant in the World

Our stomachs are already growling. Lima's Maido was named The World's Best Restaurant for 2025 at an awards ceremony earlier this summer.

Helmed by chef-owner Mitsuharu 'Micha' Tsumura, Maido jumped from the number five slot in 2024 to its reigning spot this year. The Nikkei restaurant, which blends Japanese techniques with Peruvian ingredients, emphasizes seasonality and cultural storytelling.

In the number two slot is Asador Etxebarri of Atxondo, Spain, followed by Quintonil in Mexico City at number three. Diverxo in Madrid and Alchemist in Copenhagen closed out the top five.

The awards recognized culinary excellence from 22 territories and five continents. The highest-ranking US restaurant on the list is Korean hotspot Atomix in New York City, which scored the number 12 slot.

“Chef Micha and his team deliver an unforgettable dining experience, merging tradition with cutting-edge creativity," William Drew, Director of Content for The World's 50 Best Restaurants, said in a release. "This year's list celebrates a true breadth of incredible gastronomic talent, underscoring the growing global appreciation for diversity, creativity and excellence in hospitality."
