Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara in southern Oman has collaborated with country travel specialist, Oman Expeditions, to offer the first bespoke luxury mobile camping experience in the Dhofar province, titled “Luxe Mobile Camping Adventures.” Inspired by the region's traditional heritage and environment, activities and camp locations will allow guests to view star-studded skies, deserts, mountains and long, empty beaches.
Traveling via luxury 4x4 vehicles, a sample itinerary includes two nights camping with three days of various activities. Guests may choose to venture into the desert to find sweeping dunes in the Empty Quarter. For a seaside option, guests can camp on a stretch of beach along the Dhofar coastline where they will encounter an array of wildlife, including spinner dolphins, green turtles and coastal bird life, as well as swim and snorkel in the water. In the foothills of the Dhofar mountains, guests can trek with camels along the trading routes these animals have been following for over 2000 years. Additionally, expeditions are accompanied by members of the Mahrah, a tribe who have traveled along frankincense trading routes with their camels since the time of the Queen of Sheba.
In addition to exploring the historic and scenic spots in the region, Oman Expeditions can arrange themed trips with experts ranging from Oman’s whale and dolphin expert to anthropologists, geologists, archaeologists, astronomers and ornithologists for travelers with specific interests.
After the day’s excursions, guests return to the luxury camp. Made up of semi-permanent structures, each tent has a private tented bathroom with showers open to the skies, mattresses, cotton sheets, Arabian rugs, candles and oil lamps. The chefs prepare Middle Eastern, North African and Mediterranean dishes onsite using local ingredients and dinner is served on a table by a fire.
Guests bookend their tour with a stay at Al Baleed Resort Salalah in a Garden View Pool Villa which includes breakfast and dinner.
