Bella Guatemala Travel will lead an 11-day tour of Guatemala, centered on Mayan culture and Guatemalan history. The highlight of the trip is the All Saints Day Giant Kite Festival at Santiago Sacatepéquez celebrating the Day of the Dead.
The tour, which runs from October 24 to November 3, takes guests to natural landmarks, archaeological sites and historic areas. Two top Guatemala and Latin America travel leaders will lead the trip: Jose Antonio Gonzalez, an archaeologist and explorer, and Emilio Faillace, a naturalist and environmentalist.
In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, Guatemalans spend months creating large colorful kites that are believed to communicate with and honor lost loved ones. Travelers will be able to witness this tradition, experience a variety of guided activities and still have time to explore independently.
The planned itinerary includes: a visit to Tikal National Park, where travelers will receive a tour of one of Central America’s most famous archaeological sites; a La Azoteca coffee plantation tour, showing 130 years of Guatemalan coffee history; an opportunity to learn how to make chocolate and truffles at a chocolate workshop; one of National Geographic’s top volcano hikes at Pacaya Volcano, where travelers will get an up-close view of the active 8,373-foot volcano; the UNESCO World Heritage designated city of Antigua; a boat trip on Lake Atitlán; and excursions to museums, churches and Maya weaver cooperatives.
Accommodations, daily meals, transportation, entrance fees, tour guides and taxes are included in the rates. Tours are made up of small groups of no more than 16 people.
