Country Walkers has introduced a 2019 “Walking Safari” tour into Zambia and Botswana. During the 11-day Botswana & Zambia Safari: Victoria Falls to the Okavango Delta tour, guests will experience the sights and sounds that safari vehicles pass by and view the wildlife from afar.
Travelers can witness the river rituals of hippos along the Zambezi River and walk a mist-soaked forest along the Victoria Falls. They can also see elephants bathe in the Chobe River and drift in a mokoro canoe along the Okavango Delta among a sea of reeds. By night, guests will stay at award-winning lodges and bush camps. Guests enjoy South Africa on this journey through two well-known destinations: Cape Town and Kruger National Park. On coastal walks, guests meet penguins and migrating whales; they will then traverse vineyards to sample local Stellenbosch and Franschhoek wines during a picnic lunch.
In Kruger National Park, guests can track game on foot with guides and experience encounters with the “Big Five” species as well rare nocturnal animals during both day and night bush drives. At night, travelers return to a deluxe lodge and remote camp deep in the bush.
Zambia Safari: Exclusive Camps & Bush Walks
Travelers can explore Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, where the walking safari was pioneered. The trip begins at the Mfuwe Lodge, a point of entry to venture deep into the bush on daily game drives. Then, travelers continue to three remote bush camps for an intimate wildlife experience on foot. This walking safari offers close-up encounters with great mammals, the rare Thornicroft’s giraffe (only found in the South Luangwa Valley) and birds among the park’s floodplains and lagoons.
Zimbabwe Safari: Victoria Falls & Undiscovered National Parks
A journey into one of Africa’s lesser-known regions, this experience into Zimbabwe offers the chance to track elephants on foot through grasslands and follow trails along the rim of Victoria Falls. Guests will walk through the bush with expert guides, learning to read animal tracks in the dirt and sense changes in wind direction.
Travelers will discover the history of Africa’s Cape-to-Cairo Railway while riding through miles of backcountry, watching giraffes and lions cross in front of the open railcar. Camps and lodges along the way offer luxury accommodations with views of gorges and watering holes.
