Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Kenya has introduced a new “Return of the King of the Jungle” safari package in conjunction with the new "The Lion King" film.
The movie-inspired safari itinerary pays tribute to both the old and new versions of the film, taking travelers to three properties: The Norfolk in Nairobi, Mount Kenya Safari Club overlooking Mount Kenya and Mara Safari Club within the plains of the Masai Mara.
Travelers can have a chance to see the animals that appeared on the big screen during a stay at Fairmont The Norfolk, which is close to the only national park in the city—Nairobi National Park. There, grass plains are home to antelopes, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and troops of baboons, while the acacia bush shelters lions, leopards and black rhinos.
Early morning or late afternoon drives can be arranged to view wildlife. To really get up close, travelers can head down to the Giraffe Centre to see the endangered Rothschild species, and maybe even get a “kiss” from one of the animals. Visitors to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust can get a similar experience, watching baby elephants run for their bottle of milk.
The next stop is a stay at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, which previously acted as the home of actor William Holden. The property is home to an animal orphanage and The Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy that breeds the endangered Mount Kenya antelope, the bongo and the rare white zebra. Additional animals in the area include pygmy hippos, leopards and cheetahs. Also available are a range of activities including tennis, horse-riding and biking excursions.
The three-stop itinerary finishes up in the Masai Mara region, where travelers will stay at the tented camp resort Fairmont Mara Safari Club, which sits at a focal point of the Ol-Choro Oiroua Conservation area that borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Here, travelers have one of the best chances of seeing lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes and leopards, Fairmont says, and they may also witness herds of zebra and wildebeest crossing the Mara River from Serengeti National Park to Masai Mara during the annual migration season (July—October). Guided safari game drives offer the chance to see other "The Lion King" animals, including warthogs (Pumba), gazelle and many more.
In other Fairmont Hotels and Resorts news, Fairmont Royal York is undergoing a property-wide renovation. The property is in the final phase of a multi-year transformation.
