Earlier this month, Brazos River Lodge and Bar 5 Ranch unveiled its four new getaway packages that provide private, guided trophy-hunting experience on their combined 15,000 acres of Northern New Mexico wilderness. When guests are not out on the hunt, they can rest in the properties’ upscale lodge accommodations and gourmet dining.
The Fall packages coincide with a migration of Elk down from Colorado for rut season. Expert hunting guides lead guests through the backwoods of the property for the opportunity to score a five-by-five or larger trophy bull elk.
After a day of exploration through the wilderness, guests can retreat to an upscale mountain lodge with access to a private chef who will prepare gourmet daily meals both before and after outdoor excursions. The menu utilizes local and indigenous ingredients.
The four packages—two for each property—are now available for reservation for the upcoming 2017 bow and rifle hunting seasons. The packages include the lodge accommodations, two-on-one hunting guides, daily hunting excursions, dressing of the animal once tagged and all meals and snacks prepared daily by the gourmet chef. Alcohol is not included.

The six-room Brazos River Lodge is located two hours north of Taos and three-and-a-half hours from Albuquerque. The 5,000 acre property is situated along a four-mile stretch of the Brazos River, two lakes and a forest of ponderosa. Elevations range from 10,000 to 10,500 feet. Bull elk are the property’s primary draw for hunters, but mule deer, black bear, mountain lion and blue grouse hunting are also popular.
Brazos River Lodge’s sister property, Bar 5 Ranch is located three hours north of Brazos in Raton. There is no public access to the property in any direction, so guests can hunt elk, black bears, mule deer, mountain lions and turkeys (all of trophy caliber) in total privacy. Both properties are established with cooperation and guidance from the New Mexico Game and Fish Department.
