Off the Map Travel has announced the launch of a new Fall into Foraging travel experience in Arctic Sweden this autumn, where guests will learn vital wilderness skills and collect ingredients across the region to be used in a specially prepared Arctic dinner on the final evening.
The home for this new foodie and wilderness experience is the Brändön Lodge, a traditional log-built lodge nestled in the trees on the coastline east of Lulea. From here, a local guide will test guests’ Arctic wilderness skills and impart knowledge and techniques passed from generation to generation. Key survival skills will include building a fire using only what can be found in nature, examining fresh animal tracks and identifying the best place to set up camp.
Guests will join a scenic boat tour around the coast to catch more ingredients for the final feast. Continuing around the coast, the boat will dock at Jopikgården where guests will spend a night. A return journey the following day will head to wildlife spots on the coast where guests can see seals bathing in the sunshine and reindeer foraging in the overgrowth around the coast. With a stop-off at a local island to forage for final seasonal ingredients, the boat drops guests once again at Brändön Lodge where a specialist wilderness chef and the final banquet awaits. The chef will take all of the ingredients collected over the wilderness adventure and take guests through a cooking course. After the banquet, guests can hunt for the Northern Lights.
As with any itinerary from Off the Map Travel, the Fall into Foraging itinerary can be tailor-made to fit the wishes and requirements of any guest.
