For clients looking for tours that are active, but run at their pace, the UK-based walking tour company On Foot Holidays might be a good fit.
On Foot Holidays is a travel specialist that offers a range of boutique, self-guided walking holidays in the quieter, untouched parts of Europe. Travelers can immerse themselves in the local culture and cuisine with stays at small hotels and inns. Routes are designed by locals who are available if need be. Luggage is transferred for travelers between hotels, and route notes and maps help walkers find their way.
The newest tour explores Northern Italy and is the company’s first route in the Italian Lakes region.
Travelers walk from Lake Maggiore to Lake Orta over the course of seven nights. The tour can be shortened to four, five or six nights. Travelers walk between six and 11 miles a day and explore lakes, islands, and mountains. On the way, travelers will see Pescatori, Bella and Madre Islands, known for their gardens. They will also see the World Heritage Site at Sacro Monte di Orta where a group of chapels (20 in total) contains depictions in life-size statues of the life of Saint Francis. Continuing the spiritual theme, travelers can take a ferry to the picturesque Isola San Guilio on Lake Orta and visit the peaceful convent.
The tour is now available for bookings from mid-September 2017 to early November 2017 and from late March 2018 to early November 2018. Rates include seven nights' bed and breakfast, all luggage transfers, route notes and information pack.
On Foot Holiday explores 13 countries including Greece, Germany, Turkey, England, and Czech Republic.
Travelers from the U.S. can receive a special discount at checkout by using the code “USA2018” giving them 2018 walking holidays at 2017 prices.
