In recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8, Wild Women Expeditions announced the launch of its new campaign to support climate justice and female empowerment. Wild Womenkind will donate to conservation efforts in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest and support woman-owned and -operated businesses in Morocco and Thailand.
Situated along the Pacific Coast of British Columbia, Great Bear Rainforest encompasses the traditional territories of the Heiltsuk First Nation and is home to 1,000-year-old western red cedar and Sitka spruce. With its Wild Womenkind campaign, Wild Women Expeditions intends to donate $10,000 to support the forest and will purchase offsets on all its domestic flights. Most of the funds will go towards the Great Bear Forest Carbon Project. Largely funded by carbon offsets, the project works to change land-use legislation and regulations to protect forest areas currently used for logging.
The Wild Womenkind campaign will also see the tour company focus its tours in Morocco and Thailand around businesses that empower women. This year, Wild Women Expeditions plans on introducing two itineraries focused on Morocco’s Berber culture of the women. These itineraries will include accommodations at places like Kasbah Toubkhal, the co-founder of the girls’ education program Education for All; the woman-owned eco-lodge Gite Talassemtane; and a Marrakech riad that employs disadvantaged women. In Thailand, the company supports a woman-run project that sets out to protect elephants.
