American Airlines is launching flights to Africa for the first time. The airline, which made the announcement as part of the release of its summer 2020 international schedule, will begin operating flights from Philadelphia to Casablanca, Morocco, starting June 4, 2020.
The new Morocco flight will mark the airline’s first entrance into Africa, and it will make it the only U.S. carrier with nonstop service to Casablanca, American said. The flight will be operated three times per week on a Boeing 757.
In a written statement Vasu Raja, American’s vice president of network and schedule planning, noted that Royal Air Maroc will allow for more connections further into Africa to places such as Marrakech, Lagos and Accra, once that airline joins the oneworld alliance in January.
The 2020 summer schedule also includes new flights from Dallas – Fort Worth to Tel Aviv, Israel, starting September 9; from Chicago O’Hare to Krakow, Poland, and Budapest, Hungary, starting May 7; and from O’Hare to Prague, Czech Republic, starting May 8.
The new flight to Tel Aviv, which will run three times weekly, will allow many of the airline’s U.S. customers to fly with only one stop, American said. The new flights to Eastern Europe will be operated on a Boeing 787-8 with 20 Flagship Business seats and 28 Premium Economy seats. American says that it will also be the only U.S. carrier providing service to Krakow, Budapest and Prague from Chicago O’Hare.
New flights will be available for purchase August 12, with the exception of the flight to Tel Aviv, which will open for bookings October 10.
All routes are subject to government approval, American said.
