In partnership with the Bermuda government and Delta Air Lines, Travel Edge arranged the relief of 100 American citizens who have been stranded since international travel halted at the beginning of March. On May 15, with the support and authorization of the Bermuda government, Travel Edge was able to exclusively reopen Bermuda L.F. Wade International Airport, which has been closed since the early days of the pandemic.
“Over and over again during this pandemic I have been moved by the heart and perseverance of the Travel Edge advisors,” said Jeff Willner, CEO of Travel Edge, in an official release. “The Travel Edge Bermuda team went above and beyond in chartering a commercial airline, opening an international airport and, in turn, reuniting passengers with their families.”
The flight operated out of Atlanta and was the second chartered flight by Travel Edge. The first flight was on April 7 from Ft. Lauderdale to help Bermuda locals stranded there. During this first operation, Travel Edge also chartered a private plane for the 20 Coral Princess cruise passengers who had been stranded in the U.S.
Mike Dawson, country director of Travel Edge Bermuda, added, “Together with local government, customs officials, Ministry of Health, law enforcement and many more, we were able to bring these people home. It has been a truly emotional experience to connect families and friends who have been apart for so long—with no certainty of when they would be reunited.”
At this time, the Premier of Bermuda has announced the international airport is not expected to open until June 21 at the earliest. Travel Edge is organizing a third charter flight to repatriate Canadians remaining in Bermuda, and bring Bermudian students studying in Canada home.
